In a Texas divorce, what happens if the respondent files a general?
Dont represent yourself in a Texas divorce. Just dont. A general denial is the 1st step, it makes your appearance and prevents default, BUT it doesnt make any claims for you. One of the fundamental rules of law is that if you ask, you might get, but if you dont ask, you cant get. If there are no children, no property, no debt, and youre both square with the IRS, there may not be anything worth fussing over. Otherwise, the first thing your attorney (the one youre going to hire) will do is file a counter petition asking for what you believe is fair instead of relying on the person who is divorcing you to treat your fairly.
